FASTag is an electronic toll collection system used in the country. It was created and is managed by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI). This digital innovation utilises Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) to automate toll payments directly from your linked account, negating the need for physical cash transactions. Moreover, the government has mandated FASTag, and vehicle-owners without a FASTag have to pay double the toll amount as penalty. The good news is that you can apply for a FASTag online and get it delivered to your doorstep within a few days. Here are the documents needed for FASTag.

  • Ease of payments

FASTag is your ticket to effortless and smooth transactions at toll plazas. Gone are the days where you had the need to hold up lines digging through for exact change. As it uses viable technology such as RFID, your toll fees are deducted directly from your linked bank account.

  • Saves time & fuel

As the toll amount is deducted automatically, you don’t need to stop at the toll plazas for cash transactions. This allows for non-stop movement and significantly reduces your travel time.

  • Online recharge

No need to worry about how and where to recharge your FASTag. You have the option to recharge it using your HDFC Bank NetBanking, Debit Card or Credit Card or through UPI which can be done at your convenience from anywhere.

  • SMS alerts

For each toll transaction, an SMS is sent to your registered mobile. This helps you keep track of your toll payments and account balance.

Bottomline

FASTag allows you to make cashless toll payments, saving you both time and fuel. Once you get the FASTag from the bank, you need to stick the tag on your vehicle’s windscreen. When you pass an Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) booth, an RFID scanner scans the FASTag and the equivalent toll amount is deducted from the prepaid account linked to your bank.
